The Challenge

Compensation remains one of the most important factors influencing talent attraction, retention, promotion, decisions, and workforce planning across the renewable energy sector.

Despite this, both employers and professionals often make decisions based on limited market information. Employers struggle to understand how their compensation structures compare against the broader market, while employees frequently rely on isolated data points when evaluating career opportunities, promotion discussions, or job offers.

At the same time, organizations across the industry were increasingly focused on understanding compensation through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. There was a growing need for objective, market-wide data that could help companies make better workforce decisions while giving professionals greater transparency around compensation trends.

WRISE wanted to provide its members and the wider industry with a trusted source of compensation intelligence that could support data-driven decision making across the sector.

To achieve this, WRISE partnered with Root/Edge to design and deliver a comprehensive compensation and workforce insights report.

The Root/Edge Approach

Root/Edge developed the project as a talent advisory initiative rather than a traditional salary survey.

The objective was to create a neutral, data-driven resource that could be used by both employers and professionals throughout the renewable energy industry.

Working alongside WRISE, Root/Edge designed a comprehensive survey methodology focused on compensation, career progression, experience levels, organizational structures, and diversity-related workforce metrics.

To ensure data integrity and participant confidence, all information was collected anonymously through a secure survey platform. No personally identifiable information was gathered, allowing participants to provide accurate compensation data while maintaining confidentiality.

Once collected, the data was analyzed across multiple dimensions to identify meaningful trends and benchmarking insights for both employers and employees.

Root/Edge then created two separate outputs:

A comprehensive industry report made freely available to the wider market through Root/Edge, WRISE, LinkedIn, newsletters, and industry channels.

An expanded sponsor edition providing additional insights and value to WRISE sponsors and member organizations.

Throughout the process, WRISE provided industry credibility and a neutral perspective, while Root/Edge led the research design, data analysis, market interpretation, and report development.

The Results

The report quickly became a valuable industry resource, generating conversations across both sides of the talent market.

Professionals used the data to better understand compensation benchmarks, evaluate career opportunities, and prepare for promotion or compensation discussions with greater confidence.

Employers gained access to independent market intelligence that could be used to assess competitiveness, support workforce planning, and improve compensation equity across their organizations.

For WRISE, the report strengthened its position as a value-added industry organization. By providing actionable market intelligence rather than solely advocacy-focused programming, WRISE expanded the resources available to its members and sponsors while reinforcing its role as a trusted industry partner.

For Root/Edge, the report demonstrated the firm's ability to move beyond recruitment and deliver strategic talent advisory services grounded in real market data. The project generated ongoing conversations around compensation, retention, workforce planning, and organizational design, creating a foundation for continued advisory relationships across the sector.

Most importantly, the report established an ongoing framework for industry intelligence. Rather than a one-time publication, it became part of a broader commitment to helping organizations make better talent decisions through data-driven insight.
